From humble beginnings in May of 1996, Room Service in Paradise was launched out of a small bedroom across from Kailua beach. The idea was born from the love of hotel room service (who doesn’t love that!) and being able to bring the very same experience right to your home. Starting with just 10 restaurants and 3 employees, we stand today with over 75 restaurants in Kailua, Honolulu, Pearl City and Aiea. With the help of over 40 staff members, we are continuing to expand with new restaurants and delivery areas.

Starting with dinner service only, we now provide Delivery and Catering for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner 7 days a week. We’ve had the exciting experience of working with the finest of restaurant partners (The Shack and New Chinese Garden since conception!) and the pleasure of delivering to the most wonderful customers a business could ask for. But none of this would have been possible without an incredibly dedicated and hardworking staff that have been with us through thick and thin. To our current staff and past employees, we’d like to take this opportunity to say a BIG mahalo for your hard work. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Thank you Hawaii! We look forward to many more years of serving you in the office and at home.

Aloha!

Looking for a way to spice up your weekend? Lucky for you, this weekend the Arts District Merchans Association will once again be presenting the annual “Cinco De Mayo Hispanic Celeration” Street festival! A gathering in celebration of Oahu’s diverse 120,000 Hispanic population, “this celebration will showcase the diversity of Latino culture in Hawaii and includes music, dance, cuisine and the arts” (cincodemayohawaii).

The festival will showcase the bind between Honolulu and that of its Latin American inhabitants, displaying all of the mesmerizing colors, dances, art, music, folklore, and cuisine. As with any good party, expect delicious food to go with your cerveza. Nachos, Chili Con Queso, Tamales, Chicken Mole, Mexican Pizza, and much much more will all be featured at the festival to keep you going into the wee hours. Also, keep an eye out for our very own Blazin’ Steaks in addition to all of the vendors and food trucks available. As always, they will be serving quality meat plates to satisfy your hunger.

Best of all, this Cinco De Mayo Festival is free to all. Just make sure to bring your ID if over 21 to enjoy all of the alcoholic beverages. There is also an optional $10 wrist band to be purchased which provides entry into multiple night clubs that evening. At only $10, this is a tremendous value compared to the usual cover.

So gear up with your favorite fake mustache (or real one) and pop on that sombrero for an evening in Chinatown you won’t forget!

Coffee isn’t just a fad in Hawai’i, it’s a way of life. Although some more passionate than others, coffee consumption accounts for over 100 million Americans per day. Furthermore, we collectively spend $4 billion a year annually importing that stuff. That’s right… 4 big ones. What is often forgotten is that some of the best beans the world has to offer come straight from American soil. And by American soil, we mean Hawaiian soil.

A little tidbit for you history buffs out there…

“The first coffee plant was introduced to Hawaii through King Kamehameha’s first Spanish advisor, Don Francisco de Paula Marin (1817). Shortly thereafter, in 1825, Chief Boki (governor of Oahu) brought coffee plants from Brazil and successfully planted them in Manoa Valley of Oahu. From that time on, people started planting coffee in different regions in the islands. In 1828, missionary Samuel Ruggles planted the first coffee tree in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii.” (To Hawaii)

Today, the beans are grown on five Hawaiian Islands (Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai and the Big Island).

As you probably already know, Kona is King. Grown on the southwest side of the Big Island, Kona coffee ranks among the most sought after coffee in the world. What makes it so good, you ask? The same reason why all else grows so well out here. The plants flourish in the favorable soil and climate of the Islands.

Places like Morning Glass in Manoa, or Beach Bum Café of Honolulu are just a few places that serve Hawaiian craft coffee. Sourced from growers all around the island, these mom and pop shops are able to produce some very fresh, heady brews at affordable consumer prices. Eric Rose of Morning Glass seeks growers out personally on the island, sometimes collecting just a few choice pounds and a time.

“To all of you addicts out there: If you’re ever on the island, you’ll get your fix. From locally grown to imported exotic varieties, the aroma of fresh brewed java permeates the air everywhere you go.” (Aloha from Hawaii)

It’s no secret this day in age how big of an impact social media has on… well, pretty much everything. From the recent tragedy in Boston to what type of soda Mary Sue had from the vending machine this week, our daily lives seem to be carefully cataloged and recorded each and every step of the way. Current technology, including the mass use of smartphones make it easy for the everyday consumer to become a part of this digital tidal wave. Although wading through the garbage of information can seem overwhelming, one fact remains- the impact social media has on all industries, including our own.

A recent post by Gary Edwards from The Social Media Monthly outlines the importance of this new age and the restaurant business. As a collaborator of many restaurants in Hawaii, we like to stay informed and up to date. “Consumers have a strong desire to connect with brands and other consumers via social media. The best restaurants don’t just sell food—they sell experiences. For many customers, social media is part of the appeal of dining out because it enables them to share their experiences with their online communities. So by encouraging customers to distribute images and messages about their meals, you can enhance the customer experience you offer your guests.” (Edwards)

Gary also notates that “Customers reward brands that post all user-generated content online-even if it means posting negative reviews.” This is quite interesting in that, despite what most business think, negative reviews are not always a bad thing for business. It’s more about online presence, something that the consumer can relate to.

As for us here at RSIP, we are focusing first on our Facebook. We are proud to say that only after a few months and a bit of hard work, we have reached almost 600 likes and counting. Social Media has opened a new door for us and our customers, and we hope to keep the media flowing well into the future.

Checkout our page here for daily specials and updates.
Cheers!

Living in Hawaii, we’re no strangers to pickled things. In fact, we’d say we have an affinity for it. You know like Daikon, Pickled Mango and EVEN Pig’s Feet. And then of course, there’s Kimchi – Korean pickled cabbage… guaranteed, one of the most popular sides to plate lunches and dinner alike. We think we can speak for most when we say we hold this dish near and dear to our hearts.

So, when we found out that this pickled goodie was (and is) sweeping the nation as one of the top food trends for this year, we couldn’t say we were surprised; it is delicious after all! Something we were surprised about though? The way this trend is being utilized. In all honesty, who would think to plop Kimchi onto a hot dog? Not us!

Photo Courtesy of Charlie P. (Yelp!) – Kimchi Hot Dog

Seriously though, we’re pumped that someone decided to turn Kimchi from the player on the sidelines into the star of the show… now we have more reason to indulge in the spicy-sour goodness that is Kimchi!

We know you’re probably craving Kimchi now, we know we are! And we thought you might, that’s why we made sure we got your back. And lucky for us all, Hawaii’s pretty ahead of the times. Check out our mini list of restaurants and the Kimchi items they have to offer.

After deciding to bring back an old school promotion in which we worked with the Hawaii Foodbank, we had high, high hopes. Now, looking at the results, we know we had high hopes for good reason!

Our customers came out with their guns blazing! Over the course of two weeks we managed to rake in a rather large haul of canned goods and more. Check out our recently donated stash below!

The turnout was such a smashing success, to say we were impressed would be a total understatement. It truly is a heart warming feeling to witness everyone coming together for the greater good. The amount of donations, blew us out of the water for sure!

From the staff here at Room Service In Paradise to YOU, THANK YOU for all of your kindness and generosity this holiday season.

The outcome of this year’s promotion has definitely provided us with the motivation to continue and better the philanthropic side of our business. We’re excited for the things we’ve got up and coming and hope that you are too! To see what we’ve got in store, stay connected with us via Facebook and Twitter!

Why hello there!

Here at Room Service In Paradise, we’re so ecstatic to have announced the launch of our BRAND NEW website! Wondering what we’ve changed? We’ll tell you.

For starters, we gave 941-dine.com a face lift and can we say? We love the new look and feel! Everything’s much easier to read and is a lot more interactive. Then, we’ve made it more user friendly, with easy access to the list of restaurants we offer. Plus, we’ve added a how-to-guide on how to place your order online. We’ve also added in a BLOG, so you can stay up to date with the happenings of Room Service In Paradise (in detail) and we’ve made our social media buttons more prominent for easy interaction with yours truly! Yay!

Now, as is customary with first-time blog posts, we feel an introduction to us and who we are is necessary.

In 1996, Room Service found its roots in East O’ahu working with a few restaurants, delivering dinner to the residents of Kailua and the Marine Corp Base. In the fall of ‘97, after being urged to follow suit in the Honolulu area, we began dinner delivery in Waikiki and Kahala. Shortly thereafter, Honolulu’s delivery area expanded to include all areas between Downtown Honolulu and Aina Haina. Before the year was out, lunch delivery (mainly for catering corporate lunch meetings and events) became an integral part of daily life for us.

Nearly a decade later, we felt the next step was to continue to expand our business, thus we set our focus on the Pearl City/Aiea area. In November of 2005 our Leeward branch was finally opened. Now, seven years later, we’re beyond happy to see that business is booming AND still growing!

By growing, we mean two things:

On one hand, we mean NEW DELIVERY AREAS. Just as we’ve done in the past, we’re always looking for opportunities to expand into new areas. There’s nothing we’d love more than to create new relationships with new people in new places. And you can bet your bottom dollar, we’ll hop to attention as soon as an opportunity presents itself.

On the other hand, we mean that we’re continually striving to service YOU, our customers, by not only offering exceptional customer service, but by also bringing in NEW RESTAURANTS. Just recently, in fact, we’ve signed with two new restaurants in the Honolulu area (Kissaten Café and Adega) and have several other restaurants under wraps.

And speaking of restaurants… they say Hawaii is the “melting pot of the Pacific.” And well, we think our restaurant pool could be considered just that! When it comes to restaurants, we like to keep the mix of food spots fresh, varied and TASTY of course! One of our goals here is to make sure we have an array of classic grub, like American, Italian and Mexican foods. At the same time, we also like to offer ethnic cuisines; that’s where our Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants come into play (and for our HNL customers, Mediterranean, Indian and Korean).

Whew! If that wasn’t an ear – or eyeful, since you’re reading.

This is where we part ways, so from our staff to YOU, welcome to the new Room Service In Paradise website! Enjoy. We hope you have a FABULOUS day!
